Question: I have been on the cleanse for 9-days and have not had to use my inhaler while running.  Is it possible that my asthma could be effected by the cleansing on the 21-Day Purification?

Response:   Your lungs act as an organ of elimination (they bring in oxygen and get rid of CO2 when you breathe out).  The purification program helps your organs of elimination (including your lungs) function more optimally.

It is very possible to notice changes in lung function during the purification program.  The lungs do not just breath in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide, the lungs are also responsible for removing other unwanted gases from the blood stream.  many of those gases can be irritating to the lung tissue and as your body becomes healthy there are many less toxins in the blood that it has to eliminate. The lungs are also irritated often by rebreathing gases that move up the esophagus such as a burp,  these gases which in an extreme form are what cause acid reflux, are also changed on the purification program as you digest your food better and eliminate things from your diet that are irritating your digestive system.  After you have finished the purification program if you again start to notice symptoms of trouble breathing during your runs or other times, realize that you are putting foods into your system that do not agree with you. Congratulations on feeling better and keep up the good work!

Question:   Do you have to eat fruit on the 21-Day Purification?

Response:  No you do not. You can omit fruit completely if you wish.  -Dr Foskett

Question:  The book says to have 2-3 shakes per day.  I’m assuming that each shake is in place of a meal.  So does that mean if you have two shakes, you only have one meal?  Or if you have 3 shakes, they would substitute all regular meals for that day?

Response:  Two-three shakes per day are in addition to meals, not replacement but can be used for breakfast. You need to be drinking 2-3 shakes AND eating regular meals and snacks. You can blend you shake and drink it with your meal or in-between meals.

Question: The book says no dairy, yet butter is allowed.  I’m confused by that, butter is dairy, right?  Also, I always thought butter was not good for you.

Response: Yes, you are correct, butter is dairy but generally, butter is hypoallergenic and tolerated by those who are lactose intolerant. Ghee (clarified butter) contains butterfat without the milk protein (whey and caseins).  If you are taking the SP Complete DF (dairy-free) you may wish to use butter or try ghee (if your body does not tolerate regular butter) or speak directly with your doctor about their specific recommendations for you. Ghee is available at grocery stores in town. Goat ghee (clarified goat butter) can also be used. Never use margarine or any trans fat product.

Butter is very healthy as long as it is organic and grass fed and you do not have an allergy or food sensitivity to dairy.  Butter contains healthy fats; butter fat and milk proteins. It is always recommended you choose grass-fed butter (such as Organic Valley). Pasture butter is best, but only available seasonally. For more information about healthy butter visit: www.organicvalley.coop.

Question: Should we be taking vitamin supplements with the program, or is there enough nutrition in the powders?

Response: There is enough nutrition in the SP Complete shakes to replace multi-vitamin however, additional supplements may be needed (i.e. Tuna Omega-3 Oil, Gymnema, ProSynbiotic, Linum B6, Calamari Omega-3 Liquid). It is recommended to check with you doctor for additional recommendations based on your health history.

Question: I have had bouts of emotional outbursts is that normal?

Yes. It can be part of the cleansing process.  But may also coincide with dropping blood sugar, try adding an additional shake and eating more frequently.  If symptoms persist, check with your doctor for additional support for blood sugar regulation such as gymnema, (an herb that helps with blood sugar) or Bach Flower remedies for emotions.

Question:  One day I felt a little foggy in the head, is that normal?

Probably due to detoxification however, may also be related to blood sugar. Try adding an additional shake and eating more frequently. If symptoms persist, check with your doctor.
